Address by Dean Bai Changhong at the 2026 Orientation Ceremony, Business School, Nankai University

2026-09-22

At the 2026 orientation ceremony, Dean Bai Changhong welcomed 327 new undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students to the Business School of Nankai University. Drawing on Nankai scholar Huang Yusheng's 1930 essay University Education and the Meaning of Nankai, he described the purpose of university education as self-enrichment and social betterment, and reaffirmed Nankai's enduring commitment to character and scholarship. Against the backdrop of the AI revolution and profound industrial transformation, he stressed that future managers should not be confined to a single disciplinary framework but should serve as hubs of knowledge integration. He offered three expectations: to pursue high-intelligence learning, to engage with enterprises and future industries, and to establish themselves through character and scholarship. He called on students to answer the Patriotic Three Questions confronting their generation through rigorous scholarship, exemplary character, and the new things they create and the real problems they solve in the industrial revolution, and encouraged them to live up to the times, to live up to Nankai, and to write a new chapter in their lives.
